Technical Innovation
The Minister of Alberta Transportation established a Minister’s Award for Transportation Innovation to be presented for the first time in 2005. The Minister wished to recognize innovative people in the transportation industry who plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain the highway network within the Province of Alberta and have demonstrated excellence in the technical or process innovation focusing on roads and bridges.
Alberta Transportation and A. D. Williams Engineering jointly received the 2005 Minister’s Award of Excellence in Technical Innovation for the submission “Use of Long Span Precast Concrete (NU) Girders in Alberta”. The NU Girder has been used on the McLean Bridge that is located over the Oldman River, Alberta; and the Bow River Bridge: Deerfoot Extension located in Calgary, Alberta. |
